About

About the course

Course content

Design of a process plant, preferably of the chemical industry type. This will include: Choice of process type on the basis of a feasibility study, evaluation of the process flowsheet, calculation of mass and energy balances, choice and dimensioning of the main process units, including proposing construction materials. Specify demands for off-sites and process utilities. Estimate the investment of the plant and the operating cost as a basis for an economic evaluation.
Other considerations will be: Environmental impact, waste treatment and disposal, analysis of possible risk factors, controllability of the plant.

Learning outcome

To train the students in using and combining knowledge from several areas of chemical engineering to design and calculate a process plant on the concept/pre-engineering level.

Learning methods and activities

Project work with regular meetings with a supervisor.
