Course - Finite Element Methods in Engineering Science - TKT4145
Finite Element Methods in Engineering Science
About
About the course
Course content
The course includes finite element discretisation via weak form formulation of various engineering differential equations. The main applications are 2- and 3-dimensional field problems in heat conduction and elasticity problems. Multiphysics formulations will also be addressed. Multiphysics finite element program COMSOL will be used.
Learning outcome
The course gives a detailed introduction to finite element method solutions of different field problems in engineering science and multiphysics domains.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. 2/3 of the exercises approved is minimum for exam admittance. A computer exercise based on the COMSOL and MATLAB program is mandatory. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
Compulsory assignments
- Exercises
Recommended previous knowledge
The course is based on basic courses in statics, strength of materials, and continuum mechanics (TKT4124 Mechanics 3).
