About the course

Course content

Design principles. Mechanical properties of steels. Elastic and plastic capacity of members, and elastic and inelastic buckling of members. Bolt and weld connectors. Design of structural joints.

Learning outcome

The students should know the theoretical background for the methods of analysis and design of steel structures. They should also know the background for the rules in the design codes. In addition the students should also be able to design simple steel structures subjected to static loads.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, weekly assignments and a small design project. 2/3 of the assignments must be approved prior to the examination. In case of delayed examination an oral examination may be given.
