Course - Steel Structures 2 - TKT4230
Steel Structures 2
About
About the course
Course content
The course covers elastic behaviour of plates, theory for elastic buckling of axially loaded and shar loaded plates, capacity of plates and plated structures, cross sectional classes, torsion and warping torsion, lateral torsional buckling of beams. Resistance to fire, mechanical behaviour at elevated temperatures, fracture mechanics, brittle failure, materials selection. It also covers design of structures in aluminium or stainless steels, and gives examples of structures and components.
Learning outcome
Extended knowledge on design and analyses of steel and aluminium structures, thin walled sections and members, girders subjected to plate buckling, stiffened plates, box sections for bridges.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, exercises, laboratory activities. The students design and build their own truss in aluminium profiles. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
Compulsory assignments
- Exercises, laboratory activities
