Course content
First order equations, Cauchy's problems. Linear second order equations, classification, characteristics. Boundary-value problems for elliptic equations. Boundary- and initial-value problems for hyperbolic and parabolic equations. Fundamental solutions, max-min principles.
Learning outcome
The course aims at familiarizing students with basic principles and fundamental methods in the analysis of partial differential equations.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.
Recommended previous knowledge
TMA4145 Linear Methods or equivalent.
