Machine Elements
About
About the course
Course content
Basic functions of machines and machine elements. Mechanical integrity. Fatigue design. Stress concentrations. Machine and rotor dynamics: Torsional vibration, critical speed, balancing. Mechanisms and transmissions. Mechanics of the screw. Gears. Couplings and brakes. Roller bearings. Springs. Shrink-fit, bolted and welded joints.
Learning outcome
The course gives an introduction to the function, design and analysis of machine elements and their role in machinery. The course shall provide sufficient knowledge about common machine elements for the solution of simple design tasks. It also provides a basis for acquiring knowledge about more complex machine elements and about more advanced methods of analysis.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, demonstrations, exercises. Admission to the written examination requires approval of 3/4 of exercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
