Course - Engineering Design and Manufacturing 1 - Engineering Modelling - TMM4115
Engineering Design and Manufacturing 1 - Engineering Modelling
About
About the course
Course content
Description of technical systems and products. Modeling as a tool for product development and production. Description of construction and function of technical products. Machine drawing. 3D modelling. Sketching and drawing as tools for documentation of products and processes (language and symbols). Techniques and methods for sketching and drawing. Eco-design and life cycle analysis.
Learning outcome
To give an introduction to construction and design of technical products, and to techniques and languages for description of such products. To build awareness of 3D shape and a basis in sketching. Introduction to creative work.
Learning methods and activities
The course is centered on an actual technical product, for instance a hand tool. The product is studied and described. Sketches are used to explain functions and technical solutions. Alternative solutions are sketched, and models are made. Lectures on terminology, description formats and techniques. Extensive exercises. The project part of the first semester introductory course is part of this course. There is also a teamwork project during the final phase of the course.
Compulsory assignments
- Compulsory exercises in modelling and drawing every week
- Teamwork project by semester end
Recommended previous knowledge
None.
