About the course

Course content

Product development and team work. Creative techniques. Model building and construction. Design and factors influencing shape. Machine design. Prototyping. Documentation and use of project book. Forces, aerodynamic drag, power machinery and relevant production and assembly techniques as support for project. Environmental aspects of vehicles and propulsion systems are discussed.

Learning outcome

To give an introduction to product development and product development methodology. To create a knowledge pull concerning technical and science subjects of relevance to product development. To give basic insight into the parts of production and process engineering most relevant for the product development project in the course.

Learning methods and activities

The course is centered on development of an actual technical product, for instance a bicycle with special requirements. This is the theme of a development project. Function, user requirements, production, aerodynamics and propulsion machinery should be considered in the project. Prototypes will be made and forces influencing the bicycle in use will be analyzed. The course has one line of lectures on product development methodology, one line of exercises and project work, and one line of support lectures in relevant, adjacent subjects. Grade is based on project work and result.
