About

About the course

Course content

In the four parallel specialisation directions within this course the following subjects are taught: 1) Product simulation: Introduction to product simulation theory. The students will get training in use of software for product simulation. 2) Polymers and composites: Required theory and introduction to simulation tools and methods for analysis and optimization of components which contains polymers and composites will be taught. 3) Forming of metals: A general introduction to forming processes are given: processes for plastic forming, registration of yield stresses and friction data for the actual metal formed, stipulation of metal flow when forming, analysing the forming process forging using FE-based simulations. PLM systems will be used for efficient data handling and project control.

Learning outcome

This course will give the students training in using software tool for simulating products and processes at system and part level with respect to functionality, integrity and manufacturing of composites and metals. The students will be offered specialisation in one of the subjects 1) Product simulation, 2) Polymers and composites or 3) Forming of metals. Students from different specialisation subjects are put together in teams in a common project to develop a process/product.

Learning methods and activities

The students in this course selects a specialisation direction and contribute in the multi disciplinary teamwork project with the actual specialisation knowledge. The students are put together in teams from the different specialization directions. Based on CAE software the team participants will have a common assignment for CAE modelling and FE-analysis. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
