About the course

Course content

Mechanical behavior of advanced engineering materials, metals, polymers, fiber composites and rubbers. Special consideration for plasticity, visco-elasticity, hyperelasticity, progressive damage and large deformations. Time dependent properties, stress rupture and fatigue. Production and preparation of test samples. Fundamental testing methods, loading and techniques for measurements and data acquisition. Tensile and compressive testing, flexural testing, biaxial testing, joints and selected component testing.

Learning outcome

To obtain basic knowledge about mechanical properties of advanced materials and common methods of testing and interpretation of results.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, project work and experimental work. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. If there is a re-sit examination, the examintaion form may be changed from written to oral.
