About the course

Course content

Nucleation and grain refinement, growth morphology of crystals, stability of the liquid/solid interface, dendrites cells, and eutectic structures, micro- and macrosegregation, continuous casting processes and processes for shaped castings, castability. Casting alloys.

Learning outcome

The course will give an introduction to microstructure development during solidification and inform about differnt casting methods.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, theoretical- and laboratory excercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
