Electrometallurgy
About
About the course
Course content
This course deals with chemical, metallurgical and electrical relation in the production of ferroalloys and related processes. The production processes producing Si/FeSi, manganese alloys and upgraded metallurgical silicon are thermodynamically analysed. The refining and post taphole processes are included. The operation of electrical furnaces are focused with emphasise on technical, environmental and economical issues. The project task is either based on laboratory work or industrial work.
Learning outcome
After the exam, the sudents will know the basic principles and methods for producing ferroalloys and related products. They will know how to control the final product and the operating process.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, calculating excercises and project work. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a final oral exam (70%) and projectwork (30%). The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned a letter grade.
