About the course

Course content

The aim of this course is to extend the knowledge about scientific and theoretical approaches used in product design research. Key abilities that students should practice are:
- Choosing, defining and refine a research topic for further scientific study
- Using scientific research methodologies related to product design research
- Selecting, reviewing and interpreting relevant literature, and deriving implications for future research
- Writing a scientific review article in english
The course set up requires students to select and refine a theme, and discuss with an assigned IPD supervisor approaches towards writing a scientific review article. The main theme chosen should relate to one of the main specialization areas:
- Product Design
- Designstrategy
- Interaction design
- Sustainable Product Design

Learning outcome

The subject shall provide the students with a theoretical specialization related to product design, and then apply or further develop the design theory.

Learning methods and activities

Study of litterature. Study of design theory. Article writing. A number of lectures and exercises will be offered to discuss scientific research methods, and to support scientific article writing.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
