About the course

Course content

Central topics discussed in the subject are the enterprise in macro and micro perspective, the enterprise’s function, production types, production management (Just in Time; Material Requirements Planning; Manufacturing Requirements Planning; Optimized Production Technology; Time Based Management), organisation, planning, logistics (material flow, stock management, supply chain management), production layout planning, quality management (utilization of statistic tools as well as Total Quality Management), reliability, maintenance, safety, vulnerability, production economy, information systems, project management, Life Cycle Cost and Life Cycle Profit analysis, environmental aspects in industrial production. The project work consists of an analysis of a specified industrial production company from an operation management point of view, which is visited during the semester.

Learning outcome

The main objective of the course is to provide the students with basic knowledge regarding operations of production facilities with the technological industry.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, exercises and project work carried out in groups. The project and part of the exercises are mandatory. Project work (40%) and a final written exam (60%). If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
