Course content
This course aims to introduce students to the field of human resource management (HRM) and its strategic role in organizations. The course will cover a variety of HR topics ranging from the fundamentals of human resource management (e.g. job and work design, workforce planning, recruitment and selection of employees, integration, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, legal issues, training and development, performance management, compensation and reward management) to labor relations management (e.g. employee relations and conflict management) and contemporary HRM issues (e.g. digital transformation and digitization of HR, HRM in an international and post-pandemic context).

Knowledge
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Define what HRM is and summarize its functions
- Explain the role of HRM and human capital in organizations
- Identify current trends in HR practice and research
- Analyze the external forces that impact on HR management practice
- Examine legal issues that need to be considered by HR professionals in their practice
- Discuss ethical issues and implications of managing a diverse workforce
- Compare and contrast HRM practices across different national contexts

After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Build critical thinking abilities based on relevant discussions of the HR topics and course materials covered
- Demonstrate teamwork and interpersonal capacities required in organizations

Course assessment will consist of two components:
- Assignment 1 - Group project (size of the group: 2-3 students) consisting of one group oral presentation (50%) and
- Assignment 2 - Group term paper (report), students will work with the same group members as for Assignment 1 (50%)
This course is only available as a complementary course (K-course) for the Civil Engineering programmes and Master's programmes at the Faculty of Economics.
