About the course

Course content

Field descriptions in the frequency and time domains. Visualization of acoustic fields. Sound propagation above ground. Influence of atmospheric conditions and physical boundaries. Room acoustics and sound propagation in wave guides. Idealized sound sources and radiation from vibrating plates and membranes. Musical instruments as sound sources.
Coupling between vibrating structures and acoustic fields. Analytical and numerical solutions.

Learning outcome

The course shall give a theoretical and a practical insight into sound generation and propagation in open and closed systems. The applications will primarily be the analysis and konstruction of acoustic sources, acoustic treatment of rooms, and design of silent systems.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, obligatory and non obligatory exercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
