About the course

Course content

This course presents the fundamental aspects of satellite communications. The following topics will be covered: orbital mechanics, launching of satellites, satellite technology (different subsystems), the space link, transmission theory, radio propagation, tropospheric influence, interference, link-budgets, noise, modulation, multiple access methods, coding, earth station technology, system considerations (broadcasting, mobile- and fixed services).

Learning outcome

The course oulines the fundamental principals of satellite communications, as seen from a system perspective. The course teaches skills that will enable the students to analyze and dimension satellite communication systems.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and exercises (optional). Resit examination may be altered from written to oral.
