Course content
Water as a resource and problem nationally as well as globally. Water sources and receiving waters. Climate changes. Planning, design, operation and rehabilitation of water works and wastewater systems. Water consumption. Water intake, main water supply networks, pressure tanks, distribution networks. Water quality and environmental hygiene. Treatment of drinking water. Water and wastewater hydraulics. Composition of wastewater, determination of design loads. Gravity pipes, overflows, balancing tanks and subsurface outlet systems. Stormwater management. Pipe technology. Wastewater treatment plants. Sludge treatment and handling. Laws and rules related to water and wastewater systems.
Learning outcome
To give an introduction to water supply and wastewater engineering including planning, design, operation and rehabilitation of water and wastewater systems.
Learning methods and activities
Lecturs and compulsory exercises. If a repeated exam is held for low number of students oral exam may be used insted of written exam.
