About the course

Course content

The competence the students have acquired in their first semester of German studies is further developed in this course. Written and oral proficiency in German is practiced and further developed through exercises in proficiency. These exercises are related to different types of texts and cultural expressions found in contemporary German culture. The students are expected to submit translations from Norwegian into German on a regular basis.

Learning outcome

Students should strenghten their oral and written proficiency in German, as well as their ability to understand and use relevant forms of presentation in various situations and contexts. The students should achieve language skills equivalent to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, group sessions, practical work with assignments and translations, oral presentations, language laboratory. Both parts of the exam are graded together. Failing one part of the exam entails failing the whole course. Students who fail must sit both parts of the exam again.

Compulsory assignments

  • 4 translations from Norwegian into German, approx. 200 words
  • 1 written assignment, approx. 3 pages
  • 1 oral presentation (approx. 10 min)
