About the course
Course content
The course will provide students with an understanding of how German culture, history and politics have influenced and have been influenced by Germanys neighbouring states in Europe. Emphasis will be on the construction of the nation state, seen from various European perspectives. While the focus of the course is on the 19th century it also seeks to establish connection lines throughout European national history.
Learning outcome
To give students a deeper understanding of the historical interaction between Germany and its European neighbours. Furthermore the students should broaden their competency by formulating problems and working with historical sources as well as developing the ability to contextualize these sources within the course's historical perspective.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures/group instruction.
Assignments will be written under guidance by an academic supervisor.
Analyses of historical source material.
Compulsory assignments
- 2 written assignment à 3-4 pages
