About the course
Course content
Students may choose to specialize in modern German language or literature and culture. Modern German language: The course may address German grammar in its broadest sense, i.e. modern syntactic theories, pracmatics or second language acquisition with respect to German.
Literature and culture: The course may address the works of an author, a time period, genre, literary themes, or issues in literary theory, cultural history or literature didadactics.
Learning outcome
The specialization in German language will give students a greater understanding of and insight into one or more disciplines/theories within German linguistics.
The specialization in literature and culture will give students a greater understanding of and insight into a selected field in German literature, literary research, and/or cultural phenomena.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and seminars. The assessment form varies with the topic of specialization. Literature and culture: Home exam approx. 15-20 pages. Modern German language: Home exam approx. 10-12 pages.
Recommended previous knowledge
Bachelor's degree with specialisation in German. LITT3000 and SPRÅK3000 (or 2 of the following courses: EUR3401, HIST3105 and HSIT3115).
