About the course

Course content

The course presents and discusses various research methods that can be used in research on adult learning. A number of research programmes are presented through discussions on the relation between theory and empirical findings. The emphasis given to the various research methods will vary. The term paper must be an independent discussion of one research method presented in the course as well as philosophical and ethical issues, preferably linked to the master thesis' topic and choice of method.

Learning outcome

The aim of the studies is to give students deeper insight into and understanding of different research methods in studies of adult learning.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars and term paper.
All guidance on the term paper will be given at seminars.
Length of the term paper: ca 15 pages of text.
The course is reserved for students admitted to a particular programme ("studierettskrav"). Exhange students interested in the course must consult the Department for possible admission.

Required previous knowledge

VILL3002 Quantitative Research Methods (7.5 sp) and HLS3004 Qualitative Methods (7.5 sp) or SOS1002 Research Methods in the Social Sciences (15 sp) or equivalent.
