About the course

Course content

The Master’s thesis is compulsory for the Master’s degree and is to be written during the final term of the studies programme. The paper must be independent research. The work on the paper must be based on a research question and a plan that must have been approved in the preceding term. The theme for the paper must either be connected to topics examined during the studies or be related to other topics that are relevant for adult learning. The paper must amount to 40 to 50 pages (A4, line spacing 1.5, Times New Roman font 12). The students will receive guidance during their work from an appointed supervisor.

Learning outcome

The purpose of the Master’s thesis and the Master’s seminar is to train the student in independent research. Through the compulsory guidance the student will acquire insight into the various stages of the research process, constructive and critical assessment of the research done by others, research planning and cooperation, data collection, analysis and presentation.

Learning methods and activities

Individual guidance, Master’s programme seminar.
The course is reserved for students admitted to a particular programme ("studierettskrav"). Exhange students interested in the course must consult the Department for possible admission.

Compulsory assignments

  • Submission of project description for Master's Thesis, up to 4 pages
  • Participation in project preporatory seminar (10 hours)

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Voksnes læring (MVL)

Required previous knowledge

All exams in the master programme must be passed before master's thesis.
