Course - Communication and Reproduction Behaviour - ZO2042
Communication and Reproduction Behaviour
About
About the course
Course content
This course provides a detailed introduction to the fundamental behavioural processes underlying reproductive success in animals. Emphasis is on the dynamics of interactions within and between sexes (competition, mate attraction) and between parents and offspring, and on the use of signals (colours, vocalisations, etc.) in such contexts. The course is largely based on original scientific literature and reflects the state of the art in the field. The course may include practicals.
Learning outcome
On the completion of the course students should have an understanding of: sex role and family dynamics, female- and male competition, mate attraction and mate choice. Further, students should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the evolution of signals used in communication between sexes, between competitors, between parents and offspring, including environmental and sensory influences.
