English proficiency
- Documentation and testing
Students who need to document their English language proficiency may do so in a number of ways:
- TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language (either paper-based or internet-based)
- IELTS: International English Language Testing System
- Some educational institutions will grant a waiver (e.g. based on your upper secondary school grades in English)

| Internet-based TOEFL is available in Norway (Drammen). Tests are typically given 2-3 times a month at the Kompetnasehuset IMENTENORGE . (Address: Tollbugate 27, Drammen) Register on-line to see test dates and other possible testing locations. Notes concerning the TOEFL test:
| In addition to the required photo bearing identification, each candidate must also present a completed Photo File Record (PFR) on test day. The PFR must match the candidate's official identification document, must be signed, and must have a recent photo of the examinee attached. Laminated copies or photocopies of photographs are NOT acceptable.
The PFR is part of the admission ticket. An examinee who does not receive an admission ticket or is taking the test stand-by must bring a photo to attach to the PFR on test day. The Supervisor must provide the examinee with a blank PFR form to complete. Examinees who report to the center without proper identification, and/or photo are NOT allowed to sit for the exam!!! |
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Bank cards will not be accepted as ID. Please bring a passport or driver's license. Additional information on ID requirements is available in the TOEFL bulletin.
- STAND-BY TESTING now permitted in Trondheim. Please write your name on the stand-by list at the test center. (see above for location). The list will be available from approximately 7:45 on the day of the test. (NOTE: IF the test is given in March 2012 the list will be posted at 15:00.) You must bring a registration form for the PAPER BASED TOEFL, ID and a passport photo with you. The registration form is in the TOEFL bulletin, available on-line at http://www.ets.org/toefl/pbt/about/bulletin/ or in thewaiting room of the Office of International Relations , NTNU.

Remember to bring: -
- Registration form or admission ticket/photo file record
(Photo file records are available at the test center on the day of test.) - Recent photo (laminated copies, photo copies or scanned copies will NOT be accepted). Without a photo you will NOT BE ALLOWED TO TEST.
- List of institution codes where you would like results sent
- ID (Passport), HB (number 2) pencils, eraser
