Biology
- About the programme
The Master’s degree program in biology deals with understanding of living organisms and how they constitute our world. The ability to see humans’ effect on life is increasing in importance. Our activities on earth require planning that make allowances for nature.
The Master’s degree studies can be oriented towards basic or applied research. The common feature of this program is based on the interaction between organisms and their natural environment. Additionally, knowledge of animals’ and plants’ adaptation to their ecosystems is important. With extensive knowledge about the species we can closely examine the interaction between them, discover how different industries can benefit from this knowledge, and study the impact of human activity on the species.
Course Objectives
The common feature of this program is based on the interaction between organisms and their natural environment. Additionally, knowledge of animals’ and plants’ adaptation to their ecosystems is important. With extensive knowledge about the species we can closely examine the interaction between them, discover how different industries can benefit from this knowledge, and study the impact of human activity on the species.
The thesis is normally carried out at the Department of Biology and with supervisors from the department, but cooperation with other research institutions are also common. The Master's degree in biology can be oriented toward both basic and applied research.
The degree programme offers five fields of study which are described below:
Welcome to the Department of Biology
