Master's degree programme, 2-year

Chemistry education and dissemination

- Specialisation

Chemistry education and dissemination is the scientific subject of chemistry studied "from the outside" as it appears in schools, the media, through history or through the community at large.

You will therefore study the subject from a slightly different angle than in other scientific areas, such as e.g. organic, inorganic, analytical or physical chemistry. A prerequisite for a master’s thesis in Chemistry education and dissemination is still solid knowledge in chemistry.

The thesis can be experimental or theoretical. An experimental thesis is most often associated with the classic experiments or problems to be addressed. This kind of thesis is suitable for you if you like laboratory work, or tinkering in a "Gyro Gearloose” manner.

If you despise test tubes and lab-odour, you can instead choose a theoretical approach; either linked to the historical collections at the faculty / department, or a different theme.

Requirements for topics
The formal requirements for the Master’s programme in Chemistry education and dissemination are as follows:

  1. Obtained a main profile in Chemistry; 82.5 ECTS
  2. Passed the course KJ2090
  3. Completed Bachelor’s degree

In addition, we recommend you to choose the topic RFEL1001 in the Bachelor's program in chemistry.

There are three Master’s degree courses within Natural science education:

  • RFEL3091 Teaching and learning science (7.5 ECTS)
  • RFEL3092 Research methods in science and mathematics education (7.5 ECTS)
  • RFEL3093 Episodes from the history of science (7.5 ECTS)

It is also possible to choose among the master courses in chemistry, depending on the topic of your thesis.
