- About the programme
Do you want to work with health and human care issues for a given population? Are you interested in the interplay between the individual and the social and cultural context? Are you interested in understanding how culture influences the mind and emotions of people? Do you want to work on improving the living conditions for people? Do you want to learn hands on how to initiate and sustain social change processes?
The MPhil in Human Development is a two-year programme that provides a broad introduction to the study of human development. Since all human development takes place in specific cultural contexts, the aim of the programme is to provide an advanced education in human development and change processes on a cultural basis. The programme will focus on the formation, change, and development of the individual in his/her interaction with a culture specific context.
Perceptions of gender, generation, social class, ethnicity as well as personal identity are in constant change, but with different speed in different cultures/societies under the (different) influences of globalization. This the influence of media and communication technology is important in these change processes. The ideological context, in terms of art, religion and philosophy, is also central as it contributes to the development of identity in a changing context.
The specializations should strive for an integration of different aspects of human change processes. Example topics for master’s thesis include:
- Experiences of parenting styles
- Experience of dementia in a cultural perspective
- Social and Community psychology issues
- Social Change processes at the local community level
- Traffic safety in a Cultural Context
