Master of Philosophy in Human Development
- Study environment
Studies
In the first semester, theoretical approaches to processes in human change at both the individual and community level will give the student together with training in both quantitative and qualitative research methods a solid fundament. In the second semester a more practical approach both in community psychology and research methods will be central. This semester will also give the student the possibility to go more in depth with specific areas he/she is interested in through electives. At the end of the semester every student is supposed to have an approved proposal for the master’s thesis. The second year will be devoted to individual specializations through the thesis under supervision of scientific staff and regular forum meetings with fellow students and staff in order to follow up the process.
Student activities
As a student at the MPhil in Human Development, you will get close follow-up from both academic and administrative staff. The study environment is international, and you will work closely with students from all over the world giving you an insight into how various issues are handled in other cultures and an opportunity to take part in an academic discussion in English. NTNU offers excellent working conditions, with modern lecture halls, computer facilities and study rooms.
New students will be invited to participate in an introductory programme involving several academic and social activities in the beginning of the semester.
Trondheim is regularly rated as the top unversity city in Norway on the basis of the university and the student activities .
It is the ultimate priority of every society and human institution to liberate, develop and ensure the well-being of their people. To this end, Human Development as a discipline instils critical thinking about the taken-for-granted but decisive social and psychological issues in human settings. To ensure a strong connection between theory and reality, students are taken through field trips, critical deliberations and debates, and research activities. I feel satisfied and proud to be a part of this trail leading to specialization in community and cultural psychology with the confidence of making my home-society a better place upon graduation. |
The program is very student centered. It was nice to have small classes for discussion and opportunities to talk personally with the professors. I enjoyed the lectures and liked that it was a priority of the Human Development programme to expose their students to creative new ways of studying human development instead of the traditional way of doing things in psychology. The international mix of students in the Human Development class was also a great way for all the students to blend in and work together effectively in the class. |
