- About the programme

THE PROGRAMME IS BEING DISCONTINUED AND NO NEW STUDENTS ARE ADMITTED TO THE PROGRAMME

Urgent global problems call for improved understanding of how humans think, feel and act with regard to risk, environmental problems and societal safety. The international MPhil in Risk Psychology, Environment and Safety aims at giving students a deeper insight into human reactions and responses to risk and environmental challenges, and provides them with the theoretical and methodological skills to effectively address those issues.

NTNU's Master Programme in Risk Psychology, Environment and Safety was created in 2007 and has since 2009 been an international Master.

The programme focuses on linking risk, environment and safety issues on the basis of an interdisciplinary knowledge platform. Human reactions are studied at the individual, group and societal levels. Knowledge and perspectives, mainly from the fields of social and environmental psychology, provide the theoretical and methodological basis for understanding research conducted in areas like: risk communication, risk perception, perception of the environment, behaviours related to environmental problems (e.g. transport and energy consumption), safety and security.

Career paths and work tasks on the basis of the MPhil in RIPENSA can be found in a variety of societal sectors such as within investigation and consultant tasks within the main arenas of the master programme (e.g. risk communication processes, design of pro-environmental interventions, planning and prevention), as well as in teaching and research. The interdisciplinary nature of the programme provides students with a unique qualification for suiting the needs of today's job market.
