Estimated living costs in Trondheim

Approximate figures to indicate the level of expenses per semester of study (1 Euro = approx. 8.00 NOK) (updated 2004).

Accomodation

Room at Moholt and Steinan student villages cost between 2300 NOK and 2900 NOK a month (EUR 290 - EUR 360). In addition you will have to pay a deposit of NOK 3000 (EUR 375). The deposit will be returned between two and three months after you have left the apartment, less deductions for any unsettled bills, such as telephone. Electricity is included in the rent.

Public Transportation

If you plan on taking the bus regularly, the monthly card available for students is a very good bargain. You can also buy a "klippekort" for 12 trips for 225 NOK.

Estimated living expenses

Below we give approximate figures to give one a feel for  expenses per semester of study (4-5 months). All amounts are in Norwegian kroner (NOK).

Examples - supermarket prices

NOK 15 - 25  : Bread
NOK 15 - 20 : Jam
NOK 12 :  Milk, one liter
NOK 10 : Juice, one liter
NOK 25 - 40 : Tomatoes, 1 kg, variable
NOK 15 : Eggs, 6 pack
NOK 25 - 45 : Pizza
NOK 15 : Beer 33 cl.
NOK 30 - 40 : Instant coffee

Other expenses

NOK 12 500 - Housing for single students (appr. 2 500 per month)
NOK 15 000 - Food
NOK   2 000 - Transportation (based on public transportation)
NOK   4 000 - Books
NOK   6 500 - Entertainment and miscellaneous

In sum, estimated living expenses for one semester 40 000 NOK or about EUR 5000.
