Welcome to Study Start 2017

Matriculation Ceremony - Monday, August 21st

Monday, August 21st at 5 p.m. the program will have its official welcome ceremony. Here you will receive proof of acceptance and more information about the program. There will also be a team building exercise, and food will be served afterwards. The ceremony will take place in room 217 - The old physics building at campus Gløshaugen. The ceremony is mandatory for both Norwegian and international students.

There will also be a ceremony for all new students at NTNU behind the main building August 16th at 09:15 a.m. This ceremony is not mandatory for new master students, but a lot of information will be given about NTNU and Trondheim as a student city. You can read more about this ceremony. (Note that the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management will not have any official arrangements after this ceremony.) 

The Matriculation Ceremony is a celebratory event, so students are encouraged to dress up.

About the programme

Demand for professionals trained in Project Management is increasing in the private as well as the public sector. Large or small, any project can benefit from effective project management processes and techniques.  NTNU's Master of Science in Engineering Degree in Project Management will train professionals to excel as future project leaders in a variety of industries.


The MSc in Project Management requires applicants to have at least a Bachelor of Engineering degree, preferably in civil, mechanical or industrial engineering. A strong fluency in English is also required as all lectures will be held in English and all course materials will be provided in English.

Career prospects

There has been no lack of job offers for the graduates, and most of them are now working within industry as trainees, in project teams or in staff positions related to the development of systems for project selection, evaluation and/or management. Others are working as consultants, and has continued at NTNU as a PhD student.

Programme components

The Master of Science in Project Management is a two-year  programme of study. In the first year the students have six compulsory courses that count for a total of 45 ECTS, and two engineering courses (15 ECTS). In the third semester,  the students have one engineering course (7.5 ECTS) a engineering specialization project (15 ECTS) and 7,5 ECTS of theoretical support courses. In the 4th semester, the students write their individual master's thesis (30 ECTS).
