Civil and Environmental Engineering - Specialization

Road, Transport and Geomatics

This specialization focuses on two main areas:

1. knowledge about planning, design, building and maintenance of public infrastructure; and

2. geomatics which includes the registry, treatment, employment and presentation of measurings at sea and on shore.

Roads and Transportation

Covers all types of transportation (road, railway, air and sea) with focus on road and urban traffic. The course includes design of road networks and other measures that govern and influence passenger transport and freight transportation with a view to safety, passability and the environment also for pedestrians and cyclists.

The specialization also includes planning and urban development, as well as the use and design of streets and recreational areas to create pleasant cities and towns. NTNUs many laboratories, a driving simulator and technology-based field equipment are actively used in teaching, along with modelling and tools of various types.

Geomatics

The geomatics specialization focuses on the integration of general information technology where electronic maps, geographical information systems, digital models and satellite technology are central topics. The exact positioning and appropriate visualizing are of major importance within most engineering activities. They can be used within navigation, in industry and for the monitoring of the environment and resources.
