MSc programme, 5 years

Electronics

Electronics Engineering at NTNU provides you more options than what can be related to the term electronics. You may specialize in micro- and nano-technology, medical instrumentation, telecommunications, acoustics, music and speech technology, space technology, and integrated circuit design. These are all tools that are integrated in most of the things you are surrounded with in your everyday life. The major Electronics Engineering at NTNU gives you a solid educational background that is needed to develop the technology of the future.

Signal Processing in Medical ApplicationsHow do computers and cell phones keep getting smaller, more powerful and cheaper? Could nanotechnology be used to make new materials and components atom by atom so that this development can continue? How can sound and picture be transmitted through air and water, and thin optical fibers? What is hidden behind the terms ADSL, UMTS, and GPS? How do we make medical instruments that can look into the body, mine detectors to look down then earth, and satellites to look out in space. Can we remove birth-marks and kill cancer cells with laser light without hurting surrounding tissue? How can we make ear protectors that can both stop harmful noise and enable regular communication?

You can get answers to these questions and many more by studying Electronics Engineering at NTNU. You will be taught by some of the most distinguished experts in Norway, who are also well-known internationally. As a student at NTNU you have access to necessary student facilities in modern research labs, including NTNU´s new nanotechnology lab. In the last part of the studies, each student is provided with a personal office space and laptop.

Who is this education for?

The electronics all around us would be unimaginable without the use of mathematics, physics, and computer science. Hence, you will learn the basics of these in the first years. If you appreciate the use of apply mathematics, physics, and computer science on concrete problems within the world of electronics, then Electronics Engineering is the right thing for you. In addition, you will get a broad interdisciplinary backgound, with possibilities to combine your interest for technology with interests within medicine, languages, or music.
