Engineering and ICT
- Study environment
One of the first arrangements you will meet as a new student at Engineering Science and ICT, is the well-organized buddy system set up by the student society Hybrida. New students are split into smaller groups, and each group has its own buddy. The buddy is a student from a higher class who wish to help new students finding their way in the student city Trondheim and at NTNU. This is also a great opportunity to find new friends in Trondheim.
In the buddy period, a long tradition of social activities take place such as barbecues, football, guided city tours and lots of fun. The period is brought to a close with tests for those who wish to join the student society, and the famous bathtub paddling on the river Nidelva. After the tests, a formal enrolment party is arranged where you are welcomed to the student fellowship at the Engineering Science and ICT programme.
Dedicated computer labs and reading rooms
Our students have two reading rooms at their disposal where the first and second year students have separate areas. These are equipped with wireless network and fixed network access points.
The Student Society Hybrida - A link between students, the faculty and industry
Hybrida’s web site is located at www.hybrida.ntnu.no
Time and again, Trondheim has been ranked the best student city in Norway. Part of the credit must go to the numerous student societies at NTNU. With their countless offers, they contribute to creating a social environment for each programme of study.
The Engineering Science and ICT society is called Hybrida and was established in 2002 by the very first class following this programme. The society’s most important task is to support the social environment at the programme. The student society is responsible for arrangements such as the buddy period, the enrolment party, sports, exam parties and Christmas parties. In January, Hybrida arranges a trip to the ski resort Åre in Sweden. In good company too, since practically the entire university packs skis and snowboards and go east to have fun in one of the best ski slopes in Scandinavia.
Hybrida is also an important link between the students and the faculty, industry and the other programmes of study at NTNU. Company presentations are one of the initiatives in this connection. The society invites relevant companies to present themselves to our students.
«It struck me that the programme is both large and small at the same time»

”One of the difficult questions I struggled with my final year in comprehensive school was which programme of study I was going to choose! I knew it had to be something involving technology, but which programme?
I chose something brand new: Engineering Science and ICT, and I have never regretted since. Once I started my studies, it struck me that this programme was both large and small at the same time. Large in the sense that the amount of knowledge was huge at the same time as the number of students was small. This fact created a unique atmosphere and a very special bond between the students. Everyone knew each other.
The academic size of the programme is revealed over the first two years. You get a fairly good insight into the different specializations before making a choice for the three final years of the programme.”
