About the PhD-programme

The PhD-programme in Audiovisual Media includes studies of film, television, computer and video games and audiovisual expressions online. The programme is established in cooperation between NTNU and Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, and the two institutions' research groups in film and media studies.


Admission

To be admitted to a PhD-programme, you need a funding plan and you must have completed five years of higher education including a master's degree or equivalent education. You should have a B or higher on your master's (according to NTNU's grading scale) and the demands to your research proposal are high.


Career options

A PhD degree is the highest level of formalized education in Norway.

Most people with a doctorate in the humanities from NTNU continue their careers in academia, as postdoctoral fellows, researchers, Associate Professors and full Professors, but our doctors also go on to specialized work in public management, the cultural sector and creative industries. 


Programme structure

A PhD is a three-year study based on five years of higher education, including a master's degree. The programme consists of a coursework component of 30 ECTS and a doctoral thesis.
