Finalising the PhD
There are many things to remember in the final phase of your PhD. This is a checklist for those final stages.
Coursework components
Make sure all the courses that make up the compulsory coursework have been approved and registered. Your thesis will not be sent to the evaluation committee before your 30 ECTS points are registered as completed.
Evaluation committee
Make sure that the Department are aware that you are about to hand-in your thesis. The Department is responsible for suggesting an evaluation committee to the Faculty. According to the PhD regulations this suggestion should be handed in to the Faculty along with the thesis. Sometimes it takes awhile to find members for the committee, and it is therefore important that the Department is informed ahead of time.
Handing in your thesis
Once the coursework components have been approved, the dissertation has been written and the Department has prepared a suggestion for the evaluation committee, it is time to hand-in your thesis. The Faculty of Humanities will pay for 5 copies made at NTNU-trykk. You should keep one copy for yourself and hand in four copies to the Faculty of Humanities. Printing your doctoral thesis
Tapir Uttrykk and NTNU-trykk, have the template and will ensure that the thesis is in printed in the correct format. In order for the Faculty of Humanities to pay for the printing you must state cost place 620105 and analysis number H00130. If you have made any changes since handing in your thesis for evaluation, you must deliver an errata sheet to the Faculty. It is not permitted to make any changes that will influence the content of the thesis. Only cosmetic changes are permitted, such as correcting typos.
Number reservation
Before the final version of your thesis can be printed, you must reserve an ISBN number. This is done by using the NTNU Library's ISBN-provider.
Electronic publication of doctoral theses
The NTNU Library (UBiT) offers all doctoral candidates from NTNU the opportunity to publish their doctoral thesis in PDF-format as a supplement to the paper version that will be available in the library. You can find more information about this at the Library's web pages. The electronic version of the thesis will be available through a separate search interface online which will increase availability and contribute to increased visibility for your research.
