The PhD thesis
The PhD thesis is to be an independent scientific work of an international standard. It is also to be a scientific and academic work of high quality in terms of the formulation of the issues it addresses, its precise use of terminology, method, theory and empirical foundation, documentation and means of presentation. The thesis is to help develop new scientific knowledge and be of a standard that is appropriate for publication as part of the literature in its discipline.
The thesis may be written as a monograph or as a collection of articles.
The preferred language for the thesis is Norwegian or English. If the candidate wishes to use another language, an application should be submitted upon admission.
The length of a PhD thesis will vary according to topic, approach, and whether the candidate chooses to write a monograph or a collection of articles. Normally, the thesis should not exceed 300 pages.
