Micro Sabbatical

NTNU Digital, in collaboration with the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (IE); the Faculty of Natural  Sciences (NV), the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MH) have established a pilot scheme of ”micro-sabbaticals”.

What is a Micro Sabbatical?

The arrangement will cover the extra costs incurred by 1-2 month visits to an international institution, or the same type of costs for invited guest researchers to NTNU, where the purpose is research and/or network building. The intention is to stimulate increased internationalization and research collaboration by providing the opportunity to conduct shorter research visits abroad, as a low threshold supplement to ordinary sabbatical leaves.

Who can apply?

Permanent scientific staff at IE, NV, and MH.

What can I apply for?

Support to cover extra costs incurred by research visits to an international institution for NTNU researchers, or covering of costs for invited guest researchers to NTNU. The purpose of the visit is to be research and/or network building, and the activity must be ICT related.

What is possible visit duration?

The arrangement supports visits of duration between 3 weeks and 2 months.

What can I apply for?

The support consists of a stipend plus direct expenses for travel (airfare etc.). The stipend is 40 kNOK/month for visits to an international institution, and 45 kNOK/month for guest researchers to NTNU.

What should the application contain?

A short description (1 page) of:

  • the intention of the visit
  • expected outcome
  • current relation to the institution to be visited or the guest researcher
  • time and duration for the visit

In addition an estimate of the travel expenses and a confirmation that the visit is approved by the Department Head is required.

When is the application deadline?

Applications can be submitted and will be processed continuously.
