Background and activities

Astrid Junker is a Ph.D candidate in Special Needs Education at the Department of Teacher Education (ILU). She is connected to the research group Special Needs Education in School and Teacher Education (SiSLU).

In her PhD study, Astrid investigates number sense variation and its relations to cognition. More specifically, counting strategies, and nonverbal and verbal reasoning of visual, spatial and verbal information is explored. Extended knowledge of (a)typical number sense variation, preferred counting strategies, and reasoning is needed to better describe variations in understanding, discover and help children at risk of developing mathematical difficulties.
