Daniel Alexander Philipps
About
During PhD studies, I will investigate digitally adaptive gate drivers for state-of-the-art Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs applied in the medium voltage range and how they can be used to influence and later optimize several operational conditions of these devices. My supervisor is Dimosthenis Peftitsis.
Coming from Germany, I received my M.Sc. degree from RWTH Aachen University. My master thesis has dealt with the design and implementation of a quasi resonant DCDC Converter for the low voltage range.

2016 - B.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Technical Informatics (RWTH Aachen) with major in Electric Power Engineering
2017 - Erasmus stay at Linköpings Universitet, Sweden
2018 - Internship (Research and Development) at Advanced Technology Research and Development Center of Mitsubishi Electric, Amagasaki, Japan
2019 - M.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Technical Informatics (RWTH Aachen) with major in Electric Power Engineering
2020 - PhD Candidate at NTNU
My work at NTNU will include both simulations and physical implementation of the gate driver concept that is derived beforehand.
Tasks will therefore range from SPICE modelling and simulation automisation to conducting experiments in the lab.
My special interests include Matlab, Python, C and C++ programming, SiC MOSFETs (static and dynamic operation conditions, production uncertainty and aging effects), modelling of SiC MOSFETs, gate driving methods and switching process manipulation as well as advanced sensoring techniques.
As for my free time - I love to go on hiking and biking trips paired up with either ham radio activities (my callsign is LB8HI) or some photography - and play the piano.
