Background and activities
My research focuses on turbulent entrainment and coherent structures in turbulent jets. We have used a range of analytical techniques, such as fractal properties of complex surfaces and conditioned frames of reference, to gain novel insights into the nature of mass-transfer across the turbulent/non-turbulent interface. We also use acoustic forcing using loud-speakers to investigate the response of turbulent jets to pressure waves. My expertise is in experimental methods in fluid mechanics and performing stereoscopic and tomographic particle image velocimetry (PIV), laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), hot-wire anemometry and microphone pressure measurements.
