Background and activities

Balaj's research interest is to explore how health outcomes and behaviours are shaped by the interaction of socioeconomic position and social structural forces. Her work has been developed as part of two NORFACE projects 'Health Inequalities in European Welfare States (HiNEWS)and 'The Paradox of Health State Futures (HEALTHDOX)'.  More recently, her research is focusing on cancer screening services.  The aim is to provide the first systematic evidence on the impact of the organization of cancer screening services in socio-economic inequalities in access and cancer mortality.
