Background and activities

My PhD project address the question of how Sámi identity markers, such as clothing, residence and lifestyle, contribute to establish, consolidate and change notions of cultural identity in the feature films The Pathfinder (Nils Gaup, 1987), Minister of State (Paul-Anders Simma, 1997), Bázo (Lars Göran Pettersson, 2003) and The Kautokeino Rebellion (Nils Gaup, 2008).

Forthcoming publications: «Hybrid First Person Sámi Documentaries: Identity Construction and the Contact Zones in the Twenty-First Century», in: Arctic Cinemas and the Documentary Ethos (Indiana University Press, eds. Lilya Kaganovsky, Scott MacKenzie, Anna Westerståhl Stenport). «Multilingual Representation and Hybridity in 'The Minister of State'», in: A Companion to Arctic Cinema (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, eds. Luis R. Antunes and Emma Vestrheim). «Sámi film in numbers». in: Samiske tall forteller 10. Kommentert samisk statistikk 2017 (Sámi allaskuvla/Sámi University College).
