Background and activities

My research is aimed at increasing our fundamental understanding of how materials and structures react to impact and other extreme loading environments. Special focus is placed on the two-way interaction between the load and the deformable structure during high intensity surface pressures, and the development of new experimental methods. My scientific work combines experimental, theoretical and numerical methods. Experiments represent the actual physics of the problem, while theoretical and numerical methods allow for more insight into the governing phenomena if they give reliable predictions.

The more we know, the better we can predict and control how civil engineering structures respond to extreme loading conditions.
