Zeeshan Ali
About
Working on the synthesis of silica coated iron oxide nanoparticles (SIONPs) via batch and semi-batch processes and functionalizing their surface with various moieties for diagnostic applications such as nucleic acid extraction and protein capture. His work aims to reveal the formation mechanism of SIONPs using high-end characterization techniques such as scanning transmission electron microscopy (S(T)EM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), Lumisizer, nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and microwave plasma-atomic emission spectrometer (MP-AES) etc. He is working under the supervision of Sulalit Bandyopadhyay, Jens-Petter Andreassen, Magnar Bjørås (NTNU) and Ethayaraja Mani (IIT-M).
During his MSc in Chemical Engineering at NTNU, he worked as part of the team that produced magnetic beads at the Department of Chemical Engineering at NTNU to develop COVID-19 test method and his thesis research work focused on the synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles through bottom-up approaches and the effect of reaction parameters on the particle size, particle size distribution and morphology of SIONPs.
