PhD level Introduction to Stochastic Programming

Monday Course start: 10.00 at R5 in Realfagbygget - press here for map
Tuesday-Friday Course start: 09.00 at R5 in Realfagbygget - press here for map

The course is open to all conference participants that want to have a more detailed introduction to some fundamentals of stochastic programming. Pre-registration is necessary. The course lasts five days, and covers:

  • Mon-Wed: Modeling using stochastic programming – presented by Prof Stein W. Wallace, NHH Norwegian School of Economics, Bergen, Norway
  • Thurs: Applications of stochastic programming in energy planning – presented by Prof Asgeir Tomasgard and Prof Stein-Erik Fleten, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway.
  • Fri: Data driven stochastic programming – presented by Prof Suvrajeet Sen, University of Southern California.

Participants that are PhD students at other universities can get a formal course certificate of 5 ECTS from NHH Norwegian School of Economics, if they so wish. This will be a variant of an existing course:

To obtain the certificate it is necessary to take actively part in the course, be a registered PhD student at some degree-awarding institution, and to submit an essay (details later) within six weeks after the course ends. The essay must apply some of the theory or methodology from the course to some optimization problem that is of interest to the student, typically connected to the thesis work. The actual subject must be cleared with the course organizers beforehand.

Admission is free of charge, but require registration. Lunch is included.
