Thin Section Laboratory
Good sample preparation is important for the results prior to optical microscopy and electron microscopy.
Our laboratory at NTNU produces thin sections and polished samples, of powder material and solid rock samples, and vacuum impregnation of porous rocks with coloured epoxy. The samples are used in teaching and research, in optical microscopy and electron microscopy.
The work is done mainly for the institute's students, PhD students and academic staff. The laboratory also performs sample preparation for other departments and external companies.
All samples supplied to the laboratory should be listed on a sample form. The form can optionally be downloaded and filled out in advance before you arrive in the laboratory. The thin section laboratory is located on the fourth floor in the department building.
