Coatings are important for protecting surfaces or to give surfaces desired properties. Functional coatings may be applied to change the surface properties of the underlying substrate, such as adhesion, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and wetability. For several years, combined coatings techniques have been used for making the whole or parts of devices, e.g, solid oxide fuel cells and oxygen/hydrogen conducting membranes. Protective coatings have also been investigated; either deposited externally or formed in situ. Lately, there has been focus on functional coatings, and hydrophobic/ice-phobic silane coatings on Si, Al and steel have been one of the topics. We have long experience in different coating methods, such as spray coating, spin coating, dip coating, electrophoretic deposition (EPD), spray pyrolysis and tape casting. The main activities in the field of coatings include:    

  • Flourosilane coatings for anti-icing purposes. Contact: Hilde Lea Lein

  • MnCo2O4 based spinel coatings for high temperature corrosion protection of metallic interconnects. Contact: Hilde Lea Lein

  • Inkjet printing of ceramic suspensions. Contact: Hilde Lea Lein
  • Improvement of wear, impact and scratch resistance of floor laminates. Contact: Hilde Lea Lein
