Professor Paul Verdin from Solvay Business School talked about the importance of not trying to predict the unpredictable, but instead focusing efforts on value creation and value capture. 

It was a message that created engagement among participants.

Attendees will remember this discussion very well.  It is not the economy, it is companies.  It is not the market, it is companies.  And companies would do well to avoid the horizontal game, and instead focus on creating value and on capturing some of it.
